So here is an odd one….
This was a small Chinook Salmon we caught over the weekend, and it looks like it has two mouths. What happened though is it incurred an injury probably when it was really young, which caused its tongue to detach from the lower part of the jaw. It has now healed up, and acts as a secondary mouth. Now, this is speculation on my behalf, but those are teeth growing out of the tip of the tongue. As a side note, it was the lower jaw that it used to take the bait. Its good to see how such an injury has little impact on the survival of such fish. How about a round of applause for Mother Nature.
